I was inspired by sea life itself I could've done just a pattern or any old
shape, but I chose to make a mosaic of a seahorse and seaweed. I chose
this because seahorses are small and delicate creatures. I've also
loved seahorses for a very long time.
To make this I first had
to come up with an idea for a design after that I started breaking the
blue and green glass that makes the water and seaweed. I then had to
start putting the pieces together and glue them down. Before I had all
of the blue done I had to cut the red tiles with a certain kind of
pliers. After I had most of the seahorse set and glued I started working
on breaking more glass for the water. While I was gluing, for the whole
project I had to try to see which pieces would fit together in the best
way. At the bottom is real seashells because I thought it would add to
the effect of being in the water looking at this magnificent creature.
One challenge I faced occurred in the beginning when I didn't glue
right away, and the progress I had made for the day was hard to see. My Art 3D teacher suggested
that I start gluing and I did, soon after that it was a lot easier to
see the progress I had made.
One of the things I liked bout
making this is that I was able to use real seashells. I also liked how
once it was completely done I noticed that if you look closely you can
see little bubbles underneath the blue glass.
I learned sometimes to see the progress you have made you have to step back and piece things together.
